Nov. 15, 2011 - Clarence Kearney and Sandra Kearney are honored as outstanding philanthropists by the Northwestern Pennsylvania Association of Fundraising Professionals.  They were nominated by Linda Wilkinson of Hamot Second Century Fund.

Nov. 10, 2011 - The Allegheny Conference on Community Development's blog uploads a posting about Malin Bergquist's feature coverage in Accounting Today, saying the firm "thrives on international business, promotes Pittsburgh internationally." The ImaginePittsburghOnline.com post adds that "Deane and his team leverage global connections, including the German American Business Circle (GABC) in Pittsburgh, to grow their business and promote the region.... Deane and Malin Bergquist are proud supporters of the GABC and have utilized relationships with leaders of these German-owned businesses to foster international investment opportunities in the Pittsburgh region."  Link.

Nov. 7, 2011 - In a front-page story, "Pittsburgh's Ambassador," Accounting Today reports that "Malin Bergquist thinks the world of Pittsburgh -- and it wants the world to know it. The midsized Steeltown firm has built a strong practice in serving foreign companies that establish operations in the Pittsburgh area, and conversely, among U.S. companies looking to expand abroad. And one of the main strategies it has used to promote its International Business Group has been been to boost its hometown as a great place for international businesses to enter the U.S. Market." Nov. 3, 2011 - CEO Jeffrey Deane, head of the firm's International Businesses Group, opens the fall meeting of the German American Business Circle, with more than 120 in attendance. The meeting features presentations by Victoria Demo, senior vice president for foreign exchange at RBS Securities, Inc., in Philadelphia, and Barbara Schwarck, executive coach, author and CEO of Clear Intentions International in Pittsburgh, as well as drawings for a free 90-minute coaching session by Schwarck and a free iPod. More in English - German.

Oct. 20, 2011 - Partner David Bluemling speaks on “Creating Physician/Hospital Partnering Arrangements” at the Corazon Conference in Hollywood, FL.  He co-presents with Mark Van Blargan, healthcare chair for the law firm of McNees Wallace & Nurick of Harrisburg, PA, discussing changing regulations, requirements and restrictions as well as creating new business/governance models, assuring compliance and valuating assets. Sept. 22, 2011 - Partner Stephen Heilman is profiled as a "Newsmaker" in the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review for his new role as board treasurer for GlobalPittsburgh. Full story.

Sept. 21-22, 2011 - The firm serves as a sponsor of the annual 3 Rivers Venture Fair, with partner Peter Kern introducing Thermalin Diabates for its presentation. The Fair serves as a center for innovators in the technology, life sciences and energy fields to meet possible funding sources, and since 2002 it has helped those seeking funding raise $340 million in capital investment.

Sept. 13, 2011 - Partner Stephen Heilman is elected to the board of directors of GlobalPittsburgh and will serve as its treasurer. GlobalPittsburgh, formerly the Pittsburgh Council for International Visitors, forges cultural, educational and business relationships between the Pittsburgh region and the global community through citizen diplomacy – connecting people and institutions in the region with audiences around the world through a wide range of hosting, training, networking and outreach programs.  It also brings foreign delegations to the region to experience centers of excellence in energy, education, economic and environmental revitalization, life sciences, technology and government.

Kearney, a CPA and partner with the Erie office of Malin Bergquist, and a Harley-owning motorcycle enthusiast who chairs Erie’s “Roar on the Shore,” helps lead the “Let’s Roll Ride to Shanksville” on Sept. 10-11, 2011 to benefit the Flight 93 National Memorial Campaign. Sept. 1, 2011 – Accounting Today publishes several quotes from CEO Jeffrey Deane in its special Top 100 Extra, headlined “Issues Facing the Profession” and “Private v. Public.” Deane addresses the topics of “standards overload” and “convergence” as well as the prospects for “Little GAAP” in the wake of the Blue Ribbon Panel on Private Company Financial Reporting’s recommendation for a separate standard-setting authority.

Aug. 19, 2011 - CEO Jeffrey Deane is quoted in two articles in the Pittsburgh Business Times' special accounting edition -- "IFRS Decision Expected to Come Before End of Year," about the convergence of international financial reporting standards with U.S. GAAP, and "Firms Working to Take Bigger Spot on Global Stage," about how Malin Bergquist's alliance with the International Practice Group has led to several significant engagements.

Aug. 8, 2011 - Allison Jones, CPA, a staff accountant with Malin Bergquist, will be honored as "40 Under 40: Members to Watch" by the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants. She has received this honor as “part of an elite cadre that has demonstrated its commitment to the profession” and for leading the profession into the future with “ingenuity and efforts.” Jones will be featured in the Fall 2011 edition of the Pennsylvania CPA Journal.  She is co-chair of the PICPA’s Emerging CPAs Committee and Young Erie Professionals and volunteers with Malin Bergquist Charities, Inc., the charitable foundation dedicated to the fight against cancer. She received her bachelor of science degree in accounting from Gannon University.

July 18, 2011 - In his role as chairman of Roar on the Shore, the fastest growing biking event in the nation, partner Clarence Kearney is interviewed for Mutual of Omaha's "Aha Moment" video, providing insights on the importance of giving to charity, and how Roar has grown to become a major economic force and made donations of hundreds of thousands of dollars to worthy charities. July 14-16, 2011 - Partner Clarence Kearney and his wife Sandra, both CPAs with the firm, help kick off the Roar on the Shore Bike Rally, one of the largest fundraising events in Erie, and one of the fastest-growing free bike rallies in the United States, drawing more than 50,000 bikers and biking enthusiasts. Kearney also is interviewed by the Business Magazine of Erie's Manufacturer & Business Assocation regarding his role as chairman of Erie's Roar on the Shore. June 12, 2011 - "Our Region's Business" host Bill Flanagan interviews chief marketing officer Mark Miner and Stephan Liozu, CEO of Ardex Americas and chairman of the German American Business Circle, on the "State of German-Owned Industry in the Region," a segment which airs on WPXI-TV. View

May 12-20, 2011 - Two of Malin Bergquist’s leading international accounting specialists lecture in Germany and use the opportunity to tout the benefits of Pittsburgh as a go-to region for establishing U.S. operations. Partners Jeffrey Deane and Stephen Heilman teach licensed accountants in Dusseldorf on the convergence of U.S. and international financial reporting standards, an event co-sponsored by the IDW (English and German) and the German CPA Society. They also attend a conference of the International Practice Group, in Dortmund, of which Deane serves as North American Deputy. IPG links international lawyers, accountants and tax advisers in more than 60 cities in Europe, Canada, Mexico, India, China, New Zealand and Turkey.  At the conference, Deane and Heilman distribute business cards featuring the official “Imagine Pittsburgh” logo as a conversation starter with influential professional contacts.

May 3, 2011 - At the spring meeting of the German American Business Circle, chief marketing officer Mark Miner formally presents the GABC's inaugural Economic Outlook Survey of German Industry in Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania, providing insights as to local companies' optimism, demand for products and services, hiring, facilities expansion, talent recruitment and retention, and more. January 2011 - Malin Bergquist’s banner, reading “Counting on Our Children’s Future,” proudly is displayed at the indoor swimming pool of the Baierl Family YMCA in Franklin Park, part of the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh’s Campaign for Strong Communities program. The initiative helps to support families in the community who would otherwise not be able to participate at the Y in family, social and wellness programs. The banner will be rotated to different sections of the facility throughout the year.

Jan. 14, 2011 - While a medieval tax collector lies dead, surrounded by four unseemly suspects, guests at the “Death and Taxes” murder mystery dinner theatre try to decide whodunit. Sponsored by Malin Bergquist Charities, Inc., the event was held at the Greensburg Garden and Civic Center to raise funds for the fight against cancer. Gift baskets lining the room were donated by a wide range of local companies, employees and friends of the firm.
