Impact of German Companies

Deutsch
AUMA Actuators, Inc. – manufactures electric motor actuators at Southpointe in Washington County, Pennsylvania. Starting with one employee in 1976, the company has grown to 135 employees. The Southpointe facility serves all of North America.
AUMA’s parent company was established in 1964 in Germany as a manufacturer of electric motor valve actuators and manually operated gearboxes. The company experienced success and steady growth over the years and is currently one of the leading manufacturers of actuators worldwide.
AUMA actuators can be found in many types of industrial facilities including water and wastewater treatment plants, electric power generating plants, refineries, chemical plants, mines and food and beverage plants. These facilities generally have processes that require the flow of large quantities of liquids and gases. While valves directly control the flow, the actuator provides the muscle to open and close the valve. In addition, the actuator acts as the interface to the plant’s control system.
Examples of local facilities with AUMA products installed include: ALCOSAN Wastewater Treatment Plant, West View Water Authority Water Treatment Plant, Pennsylvania-American Water Company, Homer City Power Station and The City of Pittsburgh’s Aspinwall Filtration Plant. AUMA’s products are also installed at several of the locks and dams on the Allegheny River. Those actuators open and close the valves that allow water to fill and empty the lock chambers.
