Industry Solutions : Foreign-Owned Businesses

Printer Friendly

For more than 30 years, Malin Bergquist has helped foreign-owned businesses to pursue their strategic U.S. goals, and currently serves 40 international companies. Inbound clients typically are based in Europe, and have acquired, developed or opened subsidiaries in Western Pennsylvania. We also help outbound U.S. clients seeking a “soft landing” in countries such as China, Brazil, Mexico and Canada.

Client Successes – Among our European-based clients are:

  • $200 million foreign-owned manufacturer of vinyl window extrusions – with operations in Pittsburgh, PA; Reno, NV; Dallas, TX; Canada; Mexico; and Chile.
  • $160 million manufacturer of firefighter, mine and defense safety equipment – with operations in Pennsylvania, Colorado, Texas, California, Canada and Mexico.
  • $120 million manufacturer of flooring cements and adhesives – with facilities in Pittsburgh, PA; Chicago, IL; Dallas, TX; and Atlanta, GA. This manufacturer tripled in size overnight through an acquisition, where Malin Bergquist brokered an unusual agreement on the deal's structure with the Fortune 500 seller, providing the buyer with significant tax benefits.

The firm is a major sponsor of the German American Business Circle

Technical Know-How – What sets the group apart is its significant partner involvement, continuity of staff and a one-stop approach for tax filings and financial reporting, regardless of the number of countries involved. Our expertise includes consolidations, inventory systems and developing/monitoring financial and non-financial benchmarks. This requires an extensive understanding of financial reporting and generally accepted accounting principles in each country.

Knowledge and Connections – The firm’s international expertise has been featured in the Journal of Accountancy, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Pittsburgh Business Times and Business Magazine of Erie's Manufacturer & Business Association. We co-sponsor the German-American Business Circle and British American Business Council to create an economic development infrastructure to attract and retain international companies in the region.
