Kalkhof Receives Two Accounting Designations
ERIE, Sept. 28, 2007 – CPA Mitchell L. Kalkhof, an auditor with Malin, Bergquist and Company, LLP, Erie’s largest certified public accounting firm, has obtained his designation as a certified fraud examiner (CFE). He also has been appointed to the Employee Benefit Plan Committee of the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA).
Kalkhof is a member of Malin Bergquist’s Business Valuation and Forensic and Litigation Support Services niche. The firm now has nine certified fraud examiners and valuation analysts.
The CFE designation, by the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE), denotes Kalkhof’s expertise in the detection and deterrence of fraud by evaluating accounting systems for weaknesses, designing internal controls, determining the degree of organizational fraud risk, interpreting financial data for unusual trends, and following up on fraud indicators. ACFE is a global association dedicated to providing anti-fraud education and training.
The PICPA Employee Benefit Plan Committee is a statewide organization comprised of employee benefits specialists designed to assist PICPA members of the Employee Benefit Plan community in elevating the quality of their client service by enhancing their professional network, growing through technical learning, and serving in member advocacy activities. He also serves on the Conference Planning and Technical Issues subcommittees.
Kalkhof has seven years of experience in performing and supervising audits for non-profit organizations, employee benefit plans, municipal governmental authorities, and other corporate entities . He also assists in performing peer reviews of other CPA firms. He volunteers as a financial reviewer for the United Way of Erie County, assisting in the annual budgeting process. He is a 2000 graduate of Pennsylvania State University, with highest distinction, and holds a bachelor of science degree in accounting.
