Charles A. Deluzio, CPA

Partner

Charles A. Deluzio is managing partner of the Greensburg office of Malin Bergquist, one of the oldest and largest certified public accounting firms in Westmoreland County, with offices also in Pittsburgh and Erie. Chuck serves on the firm's Executive Committee, heads its Closely Held Business Advisors Group and is a board director of the firm's non-profit charitable foundation, Malin Bergquist Charities, Inc., which leads the firmwide fight against cancer.

With more than three decades of service to hundreds of small, closely held businesses in Western Pennsylvania, Chuck is as much a senior-level adviser and confidante to business leaders as he is an experienced tax accountant. His clients rely upon his advice and counsel in an array of major life events of their enterprise. This has ranged from coaching and negotiations during mergers/acquisitions to succession planning and psychological preparation for clients when considering options for exit strategies. He understands that judgment and personality play a large role in the often emotionally charged atmosphere of building a business, overcoming difficult growth obstacles and ultimately realizing the full potential of its value.

As leader of the firm's Closely Held Business Advisors Group, Chuck and his team have worked together for many years. They provide hands-on assistance to 1,200 businesses throughout the region, with client revenues ranging from $100,000 to $25 million.  Among other accomplishments, the group has helped structure the sale of a beverage company franchise through a "like kind exchange," effectively deferring more than $250,000 in taxes; assisted a manufacturer in restructuring bank debt, saving thousands of dollars in working capital over the next decade; and structured the split off of operating divisions for a building supply wholesaler to assist the owners with business and succession planning.  The group enjoys a broad network of contacts in the professional, business and not-for-profit communities.

Among Chuck’s clients are businesses in the fields of medicine and dentistry, beverages, plastics, wholesale and retail sales, estates and trusts, industrial manufacturing and restaurants. As a result, he understands certain key financial benchmarks, unique to these industries, which impact a company’s viability and value. Chuck and the group have represented many clients through Internal Revenue Service examinations, with favorable results.  In one case, he obtained a private letter ruling with regard to conversion of individual retirement accounts, which saved a five-figure amount for the client.

Chuck has been the firm's official presenter at the Pittsburgh Business Times' annual "Pittsburgh 100" awards honoring the 100 fastest-growing, privately held companies in the region.

Active for decades in charitable and the community causes, Chuck serves as vice president of Malin Bergquist's charitable foundation which leads the firmwide fight against cancer as its signature cause, with employees delivering sets of children's books to 600 public libraries and schools.  He is a former member of the board of directors of Jeannette Mercy Hospital, now part of Excela Healthcare. He is incoming president of Catholic Charities of Greensburg Diocese and a past president of the Jeannette Kiwanis Club.

Chuck began his career in 1975, and received his bachelor of science degree in accounting in 1978 from Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, PA. He is a member of the Pennsylvania and American Institutes of Certified Public Accountants.

As the parents of four, Chuck and his wife Sharon also have four grandchildren.
