David G. Bluemling, CPA, CVA
Partner
David G. Bluemling is a partner with Malin Bergquist, a Pittsburgh “Top 20” CPA firm and the largest CPA firm in Erie. He is an established leader in three ways – as head of a fast-growing regional accounting firm; as an outstanding tax and business valuation practitioner praised by clients; and as a respected community board director. The Pittsburgh Business Times has named him a “Fast Tracker,” the only CPA firm managing partner so honored in 2004.
Since 2001, David has presided over three Malin Bergquist mergers, quadrupling the firm’s size and transforming it into a major regional player. He helped develop the firm's first strategic plan to leverage its truly differentiating strengths – serving foreign-owned businesses and providing SEC and IPO audit services for publicly owned companies.
David is a board director of CPAmerica International – the world’s sixth largest association of independent CPA firms – and brought the organization’s annual accounting/auditing conference to Pittsburgh in 2008 in celebration of the city’s 250th birthday.
Among others, David’s clients include a European-owned equipment manufacturer which has grown during its tenure with the firm from a startup to a $100 million U.S. operation. Another is a $200 million, German-owned plastics manufacturer which has expanded into Canada; Mexico and South America. He has assisted a large European-owned adhesives manufacturer while it tripled in size overnight through an acquisition, brokering an unusual agreement on the deal's structure with the Fortune 500 seller, providing the buyer with significant tax benefits.
David has helped clients obtain large federal and state R&D tax credits. He uses cost segregation studies to help clients increase cash flow through accelerated tax depreciation. He also specializes in tax and business valuation and handles domestic estate and wealth transfer plans, S corporations and multi-state tax issues.
David has been featured in the Pittsburgh Business Times and Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, and is an annual presenter at the Business Times’ “100 Fastest Growing Companies” event. He is the firm’s regional investor representative to the Allegheny Conference on Community Development and guides the firm’s sponsorship of the German-American Business Circle and British American Business Council, part of the Pittsburgh Regional Alliance.
In the community, David is immediate past chair of the Baierl Family YMCA. He is a board director of YMCA Camp Kon-O-Kwee/Spencer (raising more than $100,000 for programs for the disabled) and of the Estate Planning Council of Pittsburgh. He is a 1985 graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
