Mark A. Miner - Chief Marketing Officer

Mark A. Miner serves as chief marketing officer for Malin, Bergquist & Company, LLP, a Pittsburgh Business Times "Top 20" CPA firm and Erie's largest CPA firm.

For more than two decades, Miner has helped build the public image of professional service firms. In 2005, he was inducted into the prestigious "Renaissance Hall of Fame" of the Public Relations Society of America, the world's largest organization for PR professionals, for his trail blazing work in the fields of law, engineering and accounting.

Miner helps Malin Bergquist build a differentiating brand for the firm, its niches and regional offices on the web, in the news media, on paper and through relationship building. Above all, he is recognized for an ability to think strategically, exercise sound judgment and “get things done.”

A Law Marketing Pioneer – For a decade, from 1991 to 2002, Miner was head of media and public relations for Pittsburgh’s Buchanan Ingersoll, one of the 100 largest law firms in the nation, during a time when the firm more than doubled in size. At age 30, he was the first in-house professional in the city to specialize in law firm PR, reflecting the dramatic changes in legal marketing of the early 1990s. Many of his innovations have had lasting impact, including Pittsburgh's first law firm annual report, as well as proactive media relations and early website initiatives.

Focus on Strategy – Miner's enduring objective is to provide the best leverage for Malin Bergquist's marketing investments through effective strategic planning and sound execution. This involves carefully selecting target audiences and then determining the best way to reach them with credibility and impact.

Media Relationship Building – Miner is a proponent of solid working relationships with journalists to build trust and credibility, and he has been recognized in Fortune and People magazines for his work. He has authored a column in the National Law Journal -- the bible of the legal field -- on "Lawyers and the Press: Bitter Enemies or Friends?" He also has been featured in Law Office Administrator on "Free and Good Marketing: It's a Matter of Knowing How to Get Quoted."

High Quality Publications – Miner's extensive portfolio includes high quality printed literature such as annual reports, brochures and biographical profiles. He understands how the impact of the written word and attractive packaging collectively defines an organization's unique personality.

Web Development – An early advocate for a strong Internet presence, Miner has shaped Malin Bergquist's website as its frontline marketing and recruiting outreach. He has helped build, refine or manage 15 websites during his career, dating back to 1996, when he led the development of a law firm's inaugural site.

Awards – With Miner's help, a number of VIPs have received major, prestigious awards that set them apart in their fields. These have included the National Law Journal's "100 Most Influential Lawyers in America," the Pittsburgh Business Times' "Fast Tracker" and "CFO of the Year," and "Entrepreneur of the Year," among others.

Earlier Accomplishments – In 2002, Miner founded his own consulting firm, Mark Miner Communications, LLC, which continues to serve clients today. From 1985 to 1991, he was a PR executive with Michael Baker Corporation, a nationally known, publicly traded engineering and energy firm.

A Passion for Professional Leadership and Community Service – Miner has lectured on entrepreneurship at the University of Pittsburgh’s Katz Graduate School of Business and West Virginia University's College of Business and Economics. He has been a Judge for Pittsburgh Magazine's "40 Under 40" awards program and the Renaissance Awards of the Public Relations Society of America (Pittsburgh Chapter); chaired Rotary District 7300 PR Committee serving 1,500 members in 51 communities; president of the Beaver Area Heritage Foundation; and trustee of the Beaver Area Historical Museum and the Beaver Area Education Foundation. In 2005, he was named "Rotarian of the Year" for all of Western Pennsylvania. Books and articles he has authored have won awards from the Pennsylvania Federation of Museums and Little Big Horn Associates, and his pioneering genealogy site, Minerd.com, has been named one of the “Top 10 Family Websites” in the nation by Family Tree Magazine.
