Stephen H. Heilman, CPA

Steve is a partner at Malin, Bergquist & Company, LLP with over twenty years of public accounting experience.  He is responsible for the overall audit and accounting services provided by the Pittsburgh Office, managing a broad range of audit, review, consulting and non-traditional engagements.  Particular emphasis is on audits of foreign-owned U.S. manufacturing, distribution and service businesses and nonprofit organizations.

Throughout his accounting career, Steve has assisted clients understand and implement new accounting pronouncements, as well as guide them through complex transactions such as mergers, spin-offs, joint ventures, bond financing, consolidations and international operations.  Many foreign-owned clients require special reporting under International Accounting Standards or accounting standards consistent with the parent company.  He draws on his ample experience to offer effective management recommendations and solutions.

Steve’s engineering background compliments his association with the firm’s manufacturing and distribution clients.  Extensive experience with inventory issues such as LIFO, standard costs, and uniform capitalization provides opportunities to suggest alternative costing and accounting methods when appropriate.   Steve enjoys obtaining knowledge of the client’s services, products and manufacturing processes; thus allowing him to better understand the operations and critical factors that impact the client’s success.

The nonprofit organizations span a wide spectrum of entities and activities including foundations, health and human service providers, Churches, social and professional associations.  Steve is experienced with auditing in accordance with Government Auditing Standards and OMB Circular A-133 as well as complying with the myriad of reporting requirements imposed by many state and local governmental agencies.

Steve is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, holding a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering Technology and a Certificate of Accounting.  Steve is a past recipient of the PICPA merit award for outstanding achievement on the CPA exam.

Steve is member of both the American and Pennsylvania Institutes of Certified Public Accountants.
