Thomas M. Schaeffer

Tom Schaeffer is a partner with Malin, Bergquist & Company, LLP, Erie’s largest independent certified public accounting firm, with offices also in Pittsburgh and Greensburg.

Tom has practiced as a CPA in Erie for 44 years.  He was an audit partner with the international firm, KMG Main Hurdman, and with the local firm Murphy & Schaeffer which, in 2000, merged into Diefenbach Delio Kearney & DeDionisio (DDK&D).  On July 1, 2007, DDK&D merged with Malin Bergquist.

Tom serves many corporations and not-for-profit organizations as the partner in charge of their audits.  Also, he serves more than 80 CPA firms located in Pennsylvania and 13 other states as peer reviewer of their audit and accounting practices.  He regularly consults with both audit and peer review clients on matters such as improving operating results, owner and employee compensation, other personnel matters, improving efficiency and financial reporting matters.

He has been a member of the peer review committees of the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Practice Section of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).  Tom has served as a board member of several local charitable organizations and is a member of Jazz Erie and the Erie Art Museum.

A graduate of Thiel College, Tom holds a bachelor of arts degree in economics.

Tom is a sports fan, particularly of NCAA basketball and the Pittsburgh Steelers, and considers himself a connoisseur of beers and ales.

Tom and his wife Barb have been married since 1961.  They have three children and three grandchildren.
